Visit to the historic center and Roman ruins of Sofia. Transfer to Devin by a private coach.

We start our hike along a path that crosses the valley of Devinska river. The turbulent stream carves its way through the soft rocks, so we will walk on wooden walkways above the river. We will arrive in the pretty village of Borino, we will spend the night in a hotel.

We cross the spectacular Devil’s bridge and continue along the Buinovo Gorge to reach the Yagodina Cave – one of the most popular in Bulgaria and the longest in the Rhodopes. At the end of the gorge, we will take a Jeep ride up to the Eagle’s Eye – an observation deck suspended in the air where we can admire the soft contours of the mountains while the Buinovska river babbles hundreds of meters below our feet.

Together with the donkeys, we continue along forests and grasslands toward the high parts of the Rhodope Mountains. We will spend the night near the village of Mugla in a charming cottage house in the wild.

This stage is challenging but every drop of sweat is worthy. We will climb Mount Orpheus (2188 m), the second-highest in the Rhodope Mountains. Then we will descend to the village of Shiroka Laka – an architectural reserve with traditional black and white houses, also known for its folklore singing traditions. We will spend the night in an authentic traditional house.

Today, our route advances along an old Roman road and by the Deaf Stones natural phenomenon. We reach Izgrev Refuge where we will spend the night.

On the last day of the hike with our donkeys, we will reach the natural rock formation The Wonderful Bridges. Here we will have time to admire the gigantic rock bridges and to feel like tiny ants at their foot. We will spend the night at the Rock Bridges Refuge and say goodbye to the donkeys to meet them again in the city of Plovdiv.

Transfer by minibus to the Bachkovo Monastery – the second largest monastery in Bulgaria. After a guided tour inside, we will visit the fortress of Asenovgrad perched on a rock above the Asenitsa River. In the afternoon, we will arrive in Plovdiv, which was the European Capital of Culture in 2019. Our donkeys will meet us here for our last walk together up the cobbled streets of the Old Town of Plovdiv. We will visit museums and centuries-old houses in the Old Town, we will stroll along the crowded and full of cafes and street musicians streets of the city. We will spend the night in the city center.
